On April 11th, we left Bella Bella on what I
expected to be a Very Fun Trip. Ha. Try: Best Month of my Life. Literally. Why?
Here is a sample. In the last 31 days, in no particular order, I:
-hiked through mud up to my ankles in the pouring rain
-ate tacos and guacamole. Lots of it.
-slathered on 9 ounces of SPF 55 sunscreen
-drank margaritas and pina coladas every day
-saw a mother sea turtle laboriously lay her eggs, carefully
cover them, and warily crawl back to the sea with tears in her eyes
-had private ‘concerts’ by some of the most talented
musicians out there
-made the most important promise of my life
-smiled until my checks were sore. Then kept smiling
-sailed a hobie cat for the first (and second) time
-brought 52 of our favorite people together in the most
majestic place for 4 days of pure bliss
-wore the same wedding dress three times (that’s 75 combined
minutes of standing still while my mom and sister laced it up)
-went skinny dipping with 22 other people
-ate pig that was wrapped in palm leaves and buried under
ground to cook for 14 hours
-got 364 bug bites (approximately)
-played cornhole on the beach with a cold tecate in my hand
-had a spontaneous 5-hour sing along
-went three days without putting shoes on once
-looked the Love of my Life right in the eyes and promised
to hold his hand, to nourish him, and to love him forever
-took communion
-went crocodile fishing using only a stick, a string, and a
hot dog
-slept in 14 different places over 31 days (3 houses, 2
hostels, 5 resorts, 2 hotels, 1 research shack, and 1 airport bench)
-ate decadent chocolate cake every day for 8 straight days
-stayed at an all inclusive for the first time
-took a picture of a mini cooper floating out in the ocean
-turned 27
-snorkeled in two cenotes (deep fresh water caves)
-ate tres leches cake at Kuba Kuba
-bought 52 airplane-size bottles of tequila
-received an overwhelming number of generous gifts
-flew a kite
-spent 21 hours flying on 8 different flights
-practiced new yoga moves in the sand
-hugged 140 people in 45 minutes (yeah, you try it…)
-laughed until I cried more times than I can count
My heart is three sizes too big. We are so overwhelmed by
the love and support that has enveloped us this past moth, and that surrounds
us always. Thank you for providing the strong foundation for the unconditional
love we have for each other.
See you in April 2013 for the second annual “Love in
Paradise”: first anniversary edition!
